Scholarship Checklist

So, you’re thinking about applying for a scholarship? That’s awesome. I’m all about supporting students who are chasing their dreams. It’s not always easy, but trust me, it’s worth it.
Getting a scholarship isn’t a sure thing. But don’t let that discourage you — I’m rooting for you every step of the way.
Below is a checklist of everything you’ll need to gather. Think of it as your roadmap. Take your time with each piece; a thoughtful application stands out far more than a rushed one.
What to gather
- Personal statement (written by you)
- Statement from a parent or guardian
- Statements from 3 teachers
- Statement from a school administrator, guidance counselor, or similar
- Statement from a community official (for example, a church leader, scout leader, or sports coach)
A few tips before you start
For the personal statement, write like you talk. The people reading it want to hear your real voice, not a thesaurus. Tell them who you are, what you’re working toward, and why this matters to you.
When you ask teachers and other adults for a statement, give them plenty of notice and a short reminder of what you’ve worked on together. It makes their job easier and their letter stronger.
How to submit
Once you have all of these documents together, email them to me at alex@alexandercharlestutoring.com, and be sure to CC your parent or guardian on the email.
That last part matters: I only correspond with students when a parent or guardian is included, so keeping them copied on everything keeps the whole process open and above board.
This free program exists alongside my regular one-on-one work. If a family is in a position to invest in dedicated prep, here’s how private ACT® tutoring works — but the application above is open regardless, and I’d genuinely love to see you apply.
While you’re pulling your application together, it’s also a great time to start prepping. You can take a free official ACT® practice test to see where you stand, then work through the complete free ACT® study guide at your own pace.
